Q - What should I bring with me?
A - The weather in Scotland can be unpredictable all year round, so be prepared for four seasons in one day. We will send you a packing list at the time of booking with suggestions of what to bring.
Q - Why don't you list the exact hotels where I will be staying?
A - Love Scotland offers a complete planning and management service for your trip. We have selected some of the best hotels and guest houses in Scotland and we're sure you'll like them as much as we do. Unfortunately we can't disclose the actual hotel names until after the point of booking as it would negate the value of our service.
Q - Is there a tour guide?
A - No. At Love Scotland we specialise in self-drive tours, giving you the freedom and flexibility to travel on your own. We organise a hire car and create a special personalised guide book to give you all the maps, information and travel hints and tips you will need.
Q - Can you organise my international flights?
A - At the moment, we don't offer flights as part of our holiday packages. We can let you know who flies to Scotland from where and make you aware of any good deals on flights and the most convenient airports to use.
Q - Do I need travel insurance?
A - Yes. You must have appropriate cover for your trip, we will ask for details of your insurance policy before you arrive so we have them in case of emergency.
Q - What kind of car will I get?
A - You can expect an executive hire car like a BMW 3 series or similar. Availability is limited however and early booking is essential. If you would prefer to organise your own car hire, that is no problem at all, just ask for the excluding car hire pricing.
Q - Do I have to drive on the left?
A - Yes please! But we will supply you with a right hand drive car and you'll find it's not as difficult as you might anticipate.
Q - Do I have to drive a manual gear shift?
A - No. We will endeavour to supply an automatic transmission car. If you'd prefer a manual, just let us know.
Q - What do I do when I get to the airport in Scotland?
A - A Love Scotland representative will be there to meet you. We will track your flight and anticipate any changes in your arrival time, but if you have any problems, you will have a contact number you can reach us at.
Q - Will my cell phone work in Scotland?
A - Probably. In Scotland we use the GSM 900/1800 network which covers the rest of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. North America uses GSM 1900 which isn't compatible, but most modern phones are GSM 1900/900 and will work in Scotland. If you are concerned about staying in touch, we recommend you contact your service provider to check if your cell phone will work in Europe. Some areas of rural Scotland have no cell phone coverage, there's not really a solution to this, so we recommend you just enjoy the isolation!
Q - Will I have access to the internet?
A - Yes. The majority of the hotels we use offer free wireless internet for those guests with a mobile internet device. If you are leaving your laptop at home, there are internet cafes in all the major cities, and most large towns.
Q - Are midges a problem?
A - In the summer months in the western highlands, they can be annoying, especially around dusk and dawn. A regular insect repellent with some DEET content will help keep them away, or retiring to the bar just before your evening meal will make sure you miss the worst of it.
Q - Can I get hold of your photography?
A - Yes. Our very talented photographer is called Barbara Jones. You can see some more of her work on her website http://photosecosse.redbubble.com/works or her Flicker page www.flickr.com/photos/babsphotosecosse If you would like to purchase some of her images or prints, just ask us, Love Scotland clients are offered preferential pricing.
Q - Is there anything else I should know?
A - We will send you a comprehensive information pack at the point of booking, but do not hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
